Workshop 1: Copper Re-Tinning & Tinning

This is a 2-day workshop at my Fredonia, Wisconsin coppersmithing shop, with about 16 total hours in the copper shop.

During the last workshop, there were pairs who came - and between a 2-person team, everyone was able to tin over 20 pieces!

There will be a catered lunch provided both days as well as a few additional short breaks / snacks throughout. **You must be prepared to work with fire and molten metal! Safety equipment provided.**

Class Date:  Friday April 19 & Saturday April 20, 2024

What You Learn:

Brief 1-2 hour review of all the tools in the copper shop / tools of the trade

How to clean and strip and prep copper for retinning, with actual practice

Hands-on Tinning and Re-tinning

Hands-on proper post-tinning cleaning processes

Buffing with a power engine and compounds

Hand polishing techniques and options

Proper handle care and restoration after tinning

BONUS: How to tin in the flat

What You Take Home:

Two review booklets with all the information from the class for later study/use

All copper cookware you re-tinned in the class

Some of the gear - welding gloves, breathing equipment, etc

*I can provide vintage pieces for you to purchase to retin and take home OR you may bring your own wares to re-tin - just let me know if you need me to source your wares!

Class Size Limit: Up to 5 people

**Once you sign up for the class, we'll be in direct contact in the ensuing weeks, especially to organize what copper cookware you will wish to re-tin (eg: purchasing from me or your own). If you're traveling from outside Wisconsin, or don't live close, I'll also be sending you a bunch of information about travel details, hotel options, places to eat, and things to do/see.

Cancellation Policy:

Classes are fully refundable until 3 months before the start date. After that, up to six weeks prior to the event, you will receive 50% back of your purchase. Any cancellations six weeks or less before the event will result in a reimbursement of 25%. You may wish to consider purchasing your own travel insurance within 21 days after purchasing a workshop to recover most/all of your expenses in light of unforeseeable circumstances.
